80/1 shot can hone his Scottish Open skills ahead of the Open
Published:Rory McIlroy may not be honing his Open skills at Castle Stuart this week but five of the top nine in the Open betting are in action at the Scottish Open this week.
After 15 years of being staged at Loch Lomond, Castle Stuart has taken on the hosting duties for the Scottish Open and the course which only opened in 2009 will provide a new test for all of the players this week.
World number one Luke Donald (9/1) and world number two Lee Westwood (10/1) are battling to start the tournament as favourite, but there are some very talented names further down the list who have a real chance of winning the Scottish Open.
There hasn’t been an American winner of this event since Michael Allen lifted the trophy in 1989, but both Phil Mickelson (16/1) and Hunter Mahan (20/1) have their eyes on the bigger prize next week and they’re worth avoiding this week.
Edoardo Molinari and Graeme McDowell are all previous winners of the Scottish Open and Molinari will be defending his title this week at a huge price of 66/1.
With the course being so new to the players then the form of previous winners who all dominated the Loch Lomond course is redundant, but one player that stands out as a previous winner of the Scottish Open and a man in fine form is Johan Edfors.
The 80/1 chance finished 57th in the Open de France last week but finished 19th in the US Open and had three consecutive top-10 finishes heading in to the US Open.
He has five top ten starts in his 15 European Tour tournaments this year and the Swede will take a huge amount of confidence from his victory in 2006.
There are some strong players Edfors has to beat this week but at 80/1 he offers incredible each-way value.
