15:00 Newmarket – Lily Of The Valley can upstage the favourite

The Falmouth Stakes is the feature race of the day at Newmarket today and all eyes are on Sahpresa as the horse continues to be the subject of strong support.

Sahpresa is a long way clear of her rivals in the Falmouth betting at 2/1 and it’s easy to see why when you look at her form.

Three runs at Newmarket have produced two wins and a second place for Rod Collet’s mare and since her last appearance in this country back in October, Sahpresa has gone on to place in some of the world’s classiest races in Hong Kong and Japan before winning her seasonal debut at Longchamp in June.

Her form is so strong that eight writers in the Racing Post naps competition have napped Sahpresa as their bet of the day, and while that may be a positive to many, the form of the pundits that have tipped her is a negative.

More can be ready about why Sahpresa is a negative because of those who have napped her in our Pick of the Pundits feature, and here we will focus on why Lily Of The Valley will win today.

The French horse hasn’t been seen on a British racecourse and was very disappointing on her seasonal reappearance at Saint-cloud in May and her trainer Jean-Cloude Rouget has concerns over the mile trip for his filly.

Twice a winner over a mile at Saint-cloud, Lily Of The Valley has won six of her nine career starts, including three times in Group company and her win in the Prix de l’Opera at Longchamp last October is her strongest run to date but many of them coming over 1m1f or further.

The stiff mile at Newmarket will demand more from the horses so punters shouldn’t be too worried about the trip, especially as she’s a winner over this distance and she is worth a punt at 8/1.
