14:35 Goodwood: Western Aristocrat to govern rivals

Published:

Western Aristocrat has looked a potential star this season and can enhance his credentials further by winning the RSA Thoroughbred Stakes at Glorious Goodwood.

After two opening victories, Western Aristocrat saw his winning streak ended on his latest start, although he was not disgraced when taking third in the Jersey Stakes behind the classy Strong Suit.

Strong Suit has since gone on to win a Group Two at Goodwood earlier this week mightily impressively.

Western Aristocrat steps up in trip by an extra furlong from his Jersey Stakes defeat, which should prove no problem, while the jockey booking of Ryan Moore is also significant.

Moore is the regular stable jockey for Sir Michael Stoute and the trainer saddles Tazaham, who is also placed towards the head of the Goodwood betting.

Western Aristocrat is the favourite at 6/4, with Tazahum priced at 7/2.

Tazahum’s stamina was pushed too far at Royal Ascot when fifth behind Pisco Sour in the Tercentenary Stakes, but with today’s trip 2f shorter, he has to be rated as a contender based on his two prior Sandown successes this season.

One of these victories came in the Heron Stakes, when Neebras was among the horses behind.

However, Neebras re-opposes today on 4lb better terms, which may enable him to reverse places and he can be backed at 4/1 in the Goodwood odds.

Meanwhile, Neebras has also run with credit in two Group One races since, most notably when fourth behind Frankel at Royal Ascot in the St James’ Palace Stakes, when he had 2,000 Guineas runner-up Dubawi Gold among the runners chasing him home.

Of the remainder, Questioning may be overpriced at 8/1 if he improves for a drop in trip, while Slim Shadey could run into the places at a big price if replicating his performance in the 2,000 Guineas, when somewhat surprisingly finishing fourth.
