The Safety Net – Slow and steady wins the betting race

Published:

Fortunes can be won and lost at Royal Ascot but our easy does it philosophy is going strong and we can use Royal Ascot to our advantage today.

The Safety Net bank currently stands at £140.50 after Mawsem duly obliged for us at Sedgefield yesterday, and we’re sticking with horse racing for the third day running in out bid for a £20 profit today.

There is just the one odds-on horse running today – although Temple Place may go off odds-on in the 19:15 at Newton Abbot – but that horse happens to be the incredible Frankel and he is certainly the banker of the week at Royal Ascot.

Currently trading at 2/5, we’re more than happy to take £50 out of our Safety Net bank and use it on Sir Henry Cecil’s star in the 15:45 at Ascot.

Frankel demolished the 2000 Guineas field at Newmarket on his last start and having run six times in his career so far, is yet to be beaten.

Tom Queally will take the ride for the seventh time this season and barring his first race of his career when he was sent off the 7/4 favourite, Queally and Frankel have justified their odds-on favouritism in the five following starts.

There are eight runners who are prepared to take on the star three-year-old this year and you can guarantee the connections of each will have their preparations spot on for this as they look to upset the favorite.

But Frankel was sent off the 30/100 favourite for a race at Ascot last September and obliged in devastating fashion, winning by 10 lengths and while there’s plenty of each-way value to be found in the race, we can’t see anything beating Frankel.
