The Safety Net – Sharapova to reach Wimbledon final

Published:

The semi finals at Wimbledon get underway today and we are banking on Maria Sharapova beating Sabine Lisicki to give us a third straight victory in the Safety Net Bet.

Brazil made hard work of beating Australia 1-0 at the FIFA Women’s World Cup yesterday, but it was the result that mattered and it ensured our bank balance continued to climb to £140.50.

However, we will be staking close to half of this today on Sharapova reaching the final at Wimbledon.

Sharapova is 4/11 in the Wimbledon odds to beat Lisicki and to maintain our strategy of winning £20 each day, our stake on this outcome will be £55.

The Russian has sparkled at Wimbledon so far in making serene progress into the last four without dropping a set.

Meanwhile, Laura Robson is the only player to have pushed Sharapova as far as a tie break.

Wildcard Lisicki has done remarkably well to reach the semi finals, although it should be no massive shock as she won her grass-court preparation tournament ahead of Wimbledon at the Aegon Classic in Birmingham.

Lisicki may have beaten the likes of French Open winner Na Li and Mario Bartoli en route to the Wimbledon semi finals, but both of these victories were over three sets and it can be argued that they were not on their favoured surfaces.

This cannot be labelled at Sharapova, who is perhaps at her best on grass and is a former Wimbledon winner.

Furthermore, Sharapova triumphed in the only previous meeting between the pair, which was a 6-2, 6-0 victory earlier this year on the hard courts of Miami.

Current Status:
Bank: £140.50
Today’s stake: £55
Best case scenario: £160.50
Worst case scenario: £85.50

Last Safety Net bet: Brazil to beat Australia @ 1/4

Wealth warning: although we are confident the safety net bet’s strategy will be profitable over a period of time, the nature of sport means we cannot guarantee you will win every single time.
