The Money Maker – likely outsiders that could make your week

Everybody loves a good longshot , whether it be Mon Mome winning the 2009 Grand National at 100/1 or Birmingham lifting the Carling Cup this season, backing these winners will make a substantial difference to a punter’s bank balance.

Overpriced outsiders are available more often than it may be believed and each week on News.Ladbrokes we will suggest one tip at odds of 50/1 or greater that could result in big winnings.

We have chosen golf for our first longshot and feel that Arjun Atwal certainly represents massive each-way value at 125/1 in the PGA Tour odds to win the Memorial Tournament.

Atwal has been steadily improving on the PGA Tour of late and has been in contention for victory on both of his last two starts.

A fine opening three rounds at the Crowne Plaza Invitational saw the Indian golfer threaten the lead before fading over the closing 18 holes to finish in a share of 16th, while he had the same problems when taking eighth in the Byron Nelson Championship last week.

However, this result is still notable because it represented Atwal’s first top ten finish of the season in his 15th start, while it also arrived in the challenging conditions experienced at TPC Four Seasons.

Conditions should be nowhere near as severe for the Memorial Tournament, while his position towards the head of the PGA Tour statistics in terms of putting could prove especially valuable.

This result should leave him full of confidence ahead of arriving at Muirfield Village and if he can maintain his recent momentum and hold himself together in the final round, Atwal can challenge at the top of the leaderboard over the closing holes.

Furthermore, Atwal recently told Indian newspaper DNA: “Frankly speaking, I am still not playing the best golf of my life. I think my best is yet to come. I hope it comes soon.”

So do we.
