Roach gives Haye advice on how to beat Klitschko
Published:Being aggressive in the early rounds is paramount if David Haye is to win his heavyweight title fight with Wladimir Klitschko this Saturday, according to Freddie Roach.
Roach has previously worked in the corner of the big Ukrainian for four of his fights and believes that Klitschko can have some self-confidence issues if things do not go his own way early on in a bout.
Speaking to the Daily Telegraph, Roach said: “Being forced anywhere outside Wladimir’s comfort zone is his greatest weakness. He does lack confidence as a fighter and we discussed it when I trained him.
“I think Haye has a great opportunity if he goes out there early and uses his power, and tries to take Wladimir’s confidence away.
“I don’t see David Haye as the underdog in this fight. It’s one of the best fights out there, and a good fight for the heavyweight division.”
Roach also highlighted that Haye has to prevent Klitschko, who holds the IBF, WBO and IBO heavyweight titles and is unbeaten in 13 fights over five years, from settling into a rhythm behind his jab.
Klitschko will look to utilise his size advantage behind his jab and there is little chance of him tiring over the 12 rounds as the Ukrainian is one of the most athletic boxers in the heavyweight ranks.
Haye is 6/4 in the boxing odds to beat Klitschko, while there is every chance that the fight will fail to go the distance if the Brit comes out of the blocks quickly.
It is 2/1 that Haye wins by KO or TKO, while it is 9/2 that he achieves victory within the opening six rounds.
However, to ensure a fourth stoppage success in his fifth heavyweight fight, WBA champion Haye will have to get past Klitschko’s tight defence.
