Pick of the Pundits: Punters to cause Bedlam at Carlisle

Published:

There were plenty of Racing Post pundits waking up with a smirk on their faces this morning following Al Qeddaaf’s victory in the 7.05 at Newton Abbot.

Napped by four racing writers, Al Qeddaaf headed Bermuda Boy on the line to register a win for favourite backers at 15/8, and today the general consensus among the racing press is that Bedlam will cause just that in the 2.30 at Carlisle.

2.30 Carlisle: Bedlam – 6/4

This Class 4 two-year-old maiden stakes for British stallion studs is a nightmare for punters to predict with five of the 12 runners yet to have a career run.

But the pundits think Bedlam is the star of the field and the Carlisle betting odds would suggest they’re right.

The 6/4 favourite is some way clear of second favourite Joshua The First who is currently trading at 7/2 and then Elektrickery and Yeomanoftheguard are battling for third favouritism at around the 10/1 mark.

Both Bedlam and Johsua The First can boast strong form in comparison to their rivals, but it’s Bedlam’s third place in his only start in a Class 3 maiden stakes at York that stands out.

One of three runners trained by Tim Easterby in the race, the North Yorkshire trainer has a 13% strike rate at Carlisle this season with two winners from 15 runners and Bedlam can make it three from 18 following today’s race.

Richard Fahey’s Yeomanoftheguard has to be respected considering the trainer has only sent two two-year-olds to Carlisle this season and has returned with a winner, but on the basis of his York form, Bedlam is the one to beat.

3.05 Carlisle: Moheebb – 9/1

Napped by the in-form The North of the Racing Post, Moheebb is looking to become The North’s fourth consecutive winner.

It’s a tough race to call but Moheebb’s trainer Ruth Carr is bang in form and her gelding is on the same mark as when finishing third over this course and distance last month.

The cut in the ground should be to the seven-year-old’s liking and he represents great each-way value at his price.
