Pick Of The Pundits – Punters Entitled to winner at Pontefract

Published:

The pundits stayed well clear of the Irish Derby yesterday and they we’re proved correct to do so when the much-hyped Queen’s horse Carlton Derby failed to justify favouritism.

Treasure Beach led home a 1-2-3 for Aiden O’Brien as the Ballydoyle stable continues to go from strength-to-strength, but the pundits are focusing on the stable of Sir Michael Stoute for today’s nap of the day.

3.45 Pontefract: Entitled – 9/4

Entitled is the most napped horse of the day with an incredible eight naps in the Racing Post naps competition and Sir Michael Stoute’s filly will be sent off as the favourite for today’s race.

Just two weeks after winning the Charles Henry Memorial Stakes at York, Entitled returns to action at Pontefract today in this Class 3 handicap and will have to justify a career-high rating if she is to win.

In six career starts Entitled has finished first twice, second three times and was a distant ninth at Ascot in May despite being send off the favourite in his poorest showing yet.

That Ascot race was a Class 2 and that form is a little worrying for the punter, but that race was over a mile and Entitled’s last victory at York was over this six-furlong trip.

Despite rearing in the stalls Entitled got up on the line to land the victory just 16 days ago, and with a better start, Ryan Moore should find enough in the tank to make it a third career victory.

The dangers are Amitola and Blanche Dubawi and punters may find more value in backing Amitola each-way at 10/1.

6.40 Windsor: Amis Reunis – 6/4

Amis Reunis will be sent off the very short favourite for this race and a quick glance at the betting would suggest this is a two horse race between Richard Hannon’s filly and Royal Red, Jim Crowley’s filly.

Royal Red is the 11/4 favourite and it’s 8/1 bar the field, but based on her second place at Windsor two weeks ago, Amis Reunis looks the pick of this race and four racing writers agree.
