Pick of the Pundits – Khor Sheed well fancied at Warwick

Published:

Yesterday was a rough day for the 50 writers in the Racing Post’s naps competition with Bedlam’s failing to justify favouritism at Carlisle.

But every new day produces a new racing meeting and there are six meetings across Britain and Ireland for the pundits to get their teeth stuck into.

While there is plenty of great action at Ffos Las, Hamilton, Leicester, Newcastle and Tipperarythe punters are focusing on the seven races at Warwick, specifically the 14.20 and the 16.05.

14.20 Warwick: Kawssaj – 4/11

Like all maiden stakes, there’s a lot to learn about plenty of the runners but Kawssaj stands out following his second place finish at Haydock at the end of May.

Napped by four writers, Kawssaj will start the race as the very hot, but very short favourite with Sea Soldier looking like the only capable contender to Roger Varian’s three-year-old.

Kawssaj’s price may be too short for many backers considering the unknown quantities in the race, but if he runs to the same standard as he did at Haydock, nothing will catch him.

Verdict: Get on Logans Legend each-way at 10/1 but expect the favourite to justify his odds.

16.05 Warick: Khor Sheed – 13/8

Khor Sheed stands out as the most napped horse of the day with six naps from 50 racing writers.

Luca Cumani’s three-year-old is still under penalty because of a listed win last season, but that’s easily the best form in the race and she should have too much class for her rivals.

Eucharist is the major danger but her form this season hasn’t been great and that was enhanced with Rimth’s poor showing at Longchamp in May – she will have to produce a season best performance to beat Khor Sheed, although four wins last season suggest she’s capable.

Aside from Newmarket, Cumani has a very strong win percentage when sending three-year-old’s on the road and his first three-year-old runner at Warwick this season should return a winner.
