Nadal to make Wimbledon statement with opening match at Queens
Published:It may have taken Rafael Nadal a few rounds to warm-up in the French Open, but the Spaniard will have little problem dealing with Australian Matthew Ebden today.
The French Open champion is 1/50 to beat Ebden today but considering his opponent has only won three ATP Tour matches all year, some punters would argue Nadal offers plenty of value.
While small stakes punters will not fancy backing Nadal today, the Spaniard offers plenty of value to the high rollers at 1/10 to win the match 2-0 as he looks to start his Wimbledon preparations on the right foot.
Nadal is the 2/1 favourite to win Wimbledon but the betting is tight with Roger Federer available at 9/4 and Novak Djokovic priced at 3/1, although should Nadal put in a strong run at Queens this week, the Spaniard is likely to see his Wimbledon odds cut.
Both Federer and Djokovic have opted out of their respective tournaments this week and Nadal will be preparing to take advantage of their absence by winning Queens this week.
The world number one is the 15/8 favourite to win this week with Andy Murray his nearest rival in the Queens betting at 4/1.
However Nadal doesn’t have the best record at Queens, suffering three of his eight defeats on grass here and on the four occasions he has competed in the London event, he has won once and exited at the third-round on three occasions.
Nadal has played 48 matches on grass during his career and has lost just eight of them, four of them came before reaching his first Wimbledon final in 2006.
Since losing to Federer in the 2006 Wimbledon final, Nadal has played 21 matches at SW19 and has lost just one, also to Federer.
The world number one is a phenomenal player and his current Wimbledon odds are worth taking before he extends his strong grass court record at Queens this week.
