Nadal and Federer still set the standard at Wimbledon
Published:Wimbledon fortnight is finally here and there can be no doubting who will be the stars of the show.
World No.1 Rafael Nadal heads into the tournament looking to win his third title at the All England Club while Roger Federer is the 2/1 favourite as he looks to win a seventh Wimbledon title and equal Pete Sampras’s record.
Such is the dominance of these two on the grass of SW19, that you can back both of them to make the final at 9/4.
The last player outside of the duo to win a Wimbledon title was Australian Lleyton Hewitt back in 2002.
Since then, Federer has one six times, been a runner-up once and has only failed to make the final on one occasion – last year when he lost to Tomáš Berdych in the quarter finals.
Meanwhile, Nadal has made four finals in the past five years, winning twice.
Federer is favourite to win the title this year at 2/1, while Nadal can be backed at 9/4 to win on the immaculate courts at 9/4.
However, a brilliant fortnight of betting is ahead of us and there is plenty of value to be had outside of the big two.
Andy Murray is in fine grass court form after his victory at Queen’s last week and was unerringly brilliant in his semi final destruction of 2009 Wimbledon finalist Andy Roddick.
He’s at 5/1 to win the tournament and should march untroubled to the semi finals where he’ll probably face Nadal. Murray may have never beaten Nadal in a Grand Slam event, but he could cause an upset this time.
