McClaren in talks with Forest after Billy Davies sacking

Billy Davies has been sacked as manager of Nottingham Forest following another season of play-off misery for the two-time European champions.

Despite making the Championship play-offs for a second successive season, Davies was once again unable to guide his side to the Premier League after losing at the semi-final stage to eventual winners Swansea City.

Davies had ‘enjoyed’ a rather strained relationship with the Forest board during his time in charge at the City Ground and it appears as if another play-off semi-final defeat was the final straw.

However, Forest have wasted no time in looking for a replacement for the Scot and are already in talks with a high-profile candidate.

A statement on the Nottingham Forest website reads: “Nottingham Forest have announced this afternoon that they have terminated the contract of manager Billy Davies with immediate effect.

“They have also revealed that they are now talking to Steve McClaren about the City Ground vacancy.”

There were suggestions earlier in the week that McClaren could be about to return to FC Twente. However, this latest development would appear to put an end to those rumours.

Forest are currently 14/1 to win the Championship next season and the introduction of a big-name manager like McClaren would surely see those odds shorten sooner rather than later.
