Kaymer confident of victory upon return to Le Golf National
Published:While many of the European Tour professionals are opting to hone their skills ahead of the Open at Castle Stuart next week, there is a very strong field that has assembled in France.
There are nine course winners taking part in this tournament and that includes last week’s BMW International Open winner Pablo Larrazabal and Ryder Cup teammates Martin Kaymer and Miguel Angel Jimenez.
Add to that the fact Peter Hanson has two top-tens in his last two starts and has finished fourth and sixth at Le Golf National in the last two years and we have a very competitive field.
Kaymer is the 10/1 favourite to win and the former world number one is talking up his chances this week.
“I won in 2009 here and obviously before that I’ve done well here already. I think it’s one of the best golf courses we play on The European Tour,” he said. “It’s a golf course that I really like, and it suits my eye.”
Two years ago Kaymer defeated Lee Westwood via a play-off while last year the German ended this week with a top-ten spot, but he looks short at 10/1 and there’s better value in the Open de France odds.
Hanson finds himself as the second favourite and it’s hard to ignore his form and love for this golf course but, like Kaymer, the Swede may be a little short at 12/1.
Francesco Molinari may not have a course victory to his name like his Ryder Cup teammates, but the Italian can boast the best driving accuracy and the best greens in regulation stats in the field and looks the pick at 20/1.
We caught a glimpse of Molinari at his best last week during the second round of the BMW International Open and the Italian can refind his form on a course that he dominated last year before Jimenez took the victory in a playoff.
