Gervinho to decide Premier League move by the end of the week

Liverpool, Arsenal, Newcastle and a number of clubs across Europe will know by the end of the week if they have been successful in their efforts to sign Lille striker Gervinho.

Gervinho scored 15 league goals this season to help fire Lille to the French Ligue 1 title and is just one of their players to be linked with a move elsewhere across Europe, alongside young Belgian playmaker Eden Hazard and top scorer Moussa Sow.

It is almost certain that Gervinho is to leave Lille after deciding not to sign an extension to his current contract that expires next summer.

Newcastle have been the most forthright in their attempts to sign the Ivory Coast forward, as manager Alan Pardew has reportedly already met the 23-year-old, while it is also speculated that they have tabled a bid believed to be in the region of £10m.

However, Liverpool have been linked with both Gervinho and Hazard in recent months, while Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger has suggested that he would be willing to make an offer.

Gervinho is aware of the widespread interest in obtaining his services and has indicated that he is close to making a decision on his future.

He told Sky Sports: “During the week I’ll announce my decision so that everyone knows. I love the Premier League, but I have interest from Spain and Germany as well, so let’s wait and see.”

The signing of Gervinho would be particularly profitable for Liverpool as he could prove a vital part of a potent three-pronged attack with Luis Suarez and Andy Carroll.

It is 1/1 in the Premier League odds that Liverpool return to the Champions League by finishing in the top four next season, while they are 10/1 to win their first top-flight title since 1990.
