Fabregas to miss out on dream move because of U21 star

Published:

According to reports from all over Britain and Spain, Cesc Fabregas is either in London alone, in Barcelona with agent David Dein, or on holiday with Carlos Puyol and Gerard Pique.

The speculation surrounding Fabregas and a potential move to Barcelona is rife in the media but nobody seems to know exactly what is going on with reports that Fabregas is happy at Arsenal contradicted with reports that Fabregas has an agreement with Wenger that he will leave.

However while Fabregas, Arsenal and Barcelona continue to lock horns over a potential deal, Thiago Alcantara is reminding Pep Guardiola and the Barcelona board of his potential in Denmark at the moment.

Alcantara has shone for Spain in both of their European Under-21 Championship games so far, and the 20-year-old could prove to be the stumbling block between Fabregas and his move to Barcelona.

In the mould of Xavi, big things are expected of Alcantara in this Spanish squad and he has delivered thus far.

Guardiola has already taken Pedro and Sergio Busquets out of the Barcelona youth set-up and transformed them into World Cup winners, and while there’s no doubt Fabregas is a good player, Alcantara can be just as good given the right guidance.

Many are questioning Barcelona’s decision to chase Fabregas considering the wealth of talent they have in the midfield, and Alcantara can learn a lot from the likes of Xavi and Andreas Iniesta in a support role.

Fabregas wouldn’t be happy with sitting on the bench at Barcelona while Alcantara would take it in his stride as he looks to develop .

On the basis of the reports in Spain about Fabregas’ move to Barcelona, it seems just a case of Barcelona and Arsenal agreeing a fee for the midfielder.

But there doesn’t seem to be much action happening inside Barcelona and that may just be because they are waiting to see just how big an influence Alcantara is going to have on this Under-21 Championships.

On the basis of his first two performances, Fabregas should be worried.
