England drop Prior and Collingwood from one-day squad

England have dropped out of form Paul Collingwood and goalkeeper Matthew Prior from their one-day squad to face Sri Lanka.

Somerset’s wicketkeeper and batsman Craig Kieswetter comes in for Prior with Nottinghamshire’s all-rounder Samit Patel taking the place of the veteran Collingwood.

England National selector Geoff Miller said: “After the recent World Cup, which was a natural watershed, we’ll be looking to play an exciting brand of limited overs cricket against one of the best one-day sides in the world in Sri Lanka.

“Paul Collingwood has been an inspirational limited overs cricketer for England over many years and we still see a role for him in this capacity based on form and fitness.

“His omission is purely down to form over a period of time and we look forward to him getting plenty of cricket under his belt for Durham as he presses to reclaim a place in the England limited overs set up.

England have also made bigger changes by announcing two separate squads for the T20 game and Natwest Series as they attempt to press forward and develop as a force in the one day game.

England head into their T20 match against Sri Lanka on Saturday as narrow 4/5 favourites while Sri Lanka can be backed at 1/1.
