Donald, Westwood and Kaymer together at US Open
Published:Luke Donald, Lee Westwood and Martin Kaymer is perhaps the most anticipated threeball put together for the opening two rounds of the US Open.
Being the top three players in the current world rankings means that the Europeans are unsurprisingly towards the top of the US Open odds, but the trio still only have one major victory between them, Kaymer’s triumph at last year’s PGA Championship.
Donald is 12/1 to win a maiden major at the Congressional Country Club, with Westwood 14/1 and Kaymer 25/1.
Joining Donald as joint favourite is five-time US Open runner-up Phil Mickelson and he is part of an intriguing threeball with big-hitting Dustin Johnson and Rory McIlroy, who will both fill they have a point to prove.
Johnson was in pole position to win the US Open last year before collapsing over the final 18 holes, while McIlroy threw away a four-stroke lead heading into the final round of the Masters earlier this season.
It is 16/1 in the US Open odds that McIlroy overcomes this setback to win in Maryland, with Johnson potentially a big price at 25/1 if his driving remains accurate.
Elsewhere, defending US Open champion Graeme McDowell will be among the first out onto the course in the opening round with playing partners 2010 British Open winner Louis Oosthuizen and amateur champion Peter Uihlean.
McDowell is 33/1 to complete back-to-back victories, while Oosthuizen is 100/1 to claim a second major success.
Paul Casey forms part of another strong threeball with Matt Kuchar and KJ Choi, fellow Englishman Ian Poulter is in with American duo Hunter Mahan and Rickie Fowler.
Young Italian Matteo Manassero will play with fellow countrymen and brothers Francesco and Edoardo Molinari, while three Spaniards will also be on course together as Miguel Angel Jimenez will partner Alvaro Quiros and Sergio Garcia.
