Day 11 Womens – Kvitova to join Sharapova in Wimbledon final
Punters are piling on Petra Kvitova beating Victoria Azarenka on Thursday and it’s easy to see why.
The two players both opened up at 5/6 to win this Wimbledon semi-final but Kvitova is in to 4/5 and Azarenka is out to 1/1 following a plunge on the Czech.
Last year we witnessed Kvitova comprehensively upset Azarenka in the third round of Wimbledon and this year many people were tipping Kvitova as their underdog for the championship, and there pre-tournament bet is looking strong.
The two have met four times over the course of their career and both share two wins apiece, but the key matches are the last two matches, at Wimbledon last year and in Madrid this year, and Kvitova has won them both.
Both players have dropped just the one set over the past 10 days and Azarenka has looked extremely comfortable although is yet to really be troubled.
Tsevtana Pironkova, conqueror of Venus Williams and Vera Azonareva, provided Kvitova with her only scare in the quarter-final but the Czech responded well with two breaks in the final set, and it’s really difficult to make a case for Azarenka.
All four of the matches between the two have been over in two sets and Kvitova looks very enticing at 2/1 to win the match 2-0 and even more enticing at 5/4 to win the first set and the match.
The centre court crowd would love to see a classic and on paper this match has the makings of one, but on the basis of the head-to-head meetings between the two we have to go with Kvitova taking it easily.
In eight sets between the two there has only been one tiebreak and punters can get 5/6 that there are under 22.5 games in the match but the safe bet is the 8/13 that there are under 24.5 games in the match.
