Chelsea target Andre Villas-Boas resigns as Porto manager

Andre Villas-Boas has taken another large step on the road to becoming the new Chelsea boss after resigning as Porto’s manager.

Sky Sports are reporting the 33-year-old has resigned with immediate effect, paving the way for his move to west London.

The Portuguese and Europa League champions will undoubtedly be seeking compensation and the suggestion is that Chelsea will pay the £13.2million release clause in Villa-Boas’s contract.

Villa-Boas looks set to be just one of several Porto people joining the Blues this summer, with striker Radamel Falcao and midfielder Joao Moutinho also set to follow their boss to Stamford Bridge.

Chelsea are currently second favourites to win the Premier League at 5/2 and could be well worth backing if Villa-Boas lives up to his potential as the most exciting young coach in Europe when he inevitably takes the Chelsea job.
