Barcelona have Man Utd star on radar as back up to Sanchez

Barcelona may be willing to approach Manchester United about signing Nani if they fail in their efforts to land Alexis Sanchez from Udinese.

Sanchez is one of the most sought after players of the summer, with a number of big clubs across Europe deliberating over whether to meet Udinese’s £30m price tag.

Manchester City and Chelsea are two clubs in the Premier League interested in the Chilean winger, although he has personally stated that Barcelona would be his chosen destination.

However, if Barcelona fail to win this particular race then Catalan newspaper El Mundo Deportivo has stated that Pep Guardiola would turn his attentions to Nani.

With Manchester United recently securing the signature of Ashley Young from Aston Villa, there are arguments that Nani may be surplus to requirements at Old Trafford.

And with Manchester United still said to be interested in Wesley Sneijder from Inter Milan and Barcelona’s own Thiago Alcantara, they may need to sell from within their squad to find such transfers.

Juventus and Bayern Munich are likely to pose the stiffest opposition to Barcelona for Nani, but the final decision may lie with the Portuguese international.

He is certainly more likely to be a first-team regular in either Italy or Germany, but the chance to be a squad player in a team that will be leading challengers for four trophies may be too good an opportunity to refuse.

Manchester United have already spent more than £50m this summer on Young, Phil Jones and David De Gea and will want to lay down a significant challenge in defending their Premier League title this season.

It is 7/4 in the Premier League odds that Manchester United are crowned champions again this season, with Chelsea considered to be their chief challengers at 5/2.
