Swansea vs Reading – Swans set for Premier League

Published:

Monday’s Championship play-off final marks the end of the domestic campaign and as the odds on Ladbrokes show, nobody is certain on whether it will be Swansea or Reading playing in the Premier League next season…

Match odds

Swansea’s price of 8/5 to win in 90 minutes at Wembley appears generous given that they triumphed 1-0 in both regular season meetings between the clubs, especially as Brendan Rodgers expects the big pitch to favour his side’s expansive style.

Defeat would be particularly hard to take for the former Chelsea coach because the Royals sacked him after a disappointing stint there last term, but a key trend indicates that he won’t have to deal with that prospect.

The Swans came third in the Championship and in six of the last seven seasons the team that have gained promotion through the play-offs have participated in the third-versus-sixth semi-final, with only Burnley going up from fourth or fifth.

In Reading’s favour though is the fact that they have been the top performers in the division since March, and if you anticipate that momentum proving the difference maker then the Royals are 13/8 to deliver in normal time, with the draw 23/10.

Other markets

Because this year’s showdown is considered so tough to call, there is more value than usual in the outright market, with Swansea a delicious 4/5 to become the first ever Welsh club to reach the Premier League and Reading 10/11.

As mentioned earlier, Swansea have two 1-0 victories over Brian McDermott’s men to their name already and the hat-trick is an appetising 6/1 despite that being the scoreline in five of the last seven Championship play-off finals.

Think Reading will nick the win? A £30 stake on them pinching it 1-0 at 7/1 would provide a profit of £210. New customers can sign up here for a free £30 bet.
