Support for Manchester United to end the season trophyless

Sir Alex Ferguson’s team selection for Manchester United’s match with Schalke on Wednesday night proved just how much he values Sunday’s showdown with Chelsea.

Wayne Rooney, Nemanja Vidic, Rio Ferdinand, Ryan Giggs, Patrice Evra, Michael Carrick and Javier Hernandez were all given the night off as Ferguson looks to stop the run that has seen the Red Devils lose their last two matches following Champions League action.

With home advantage in their favour for Sunday’s game with Chelsea, the title is still very much in Manchester United’s hands and that is reflected in their 1/4 price to win the Premier League.

At 11/8 to beat Chelsea on Sunday the Premier League betting makes Manchester United the uneasy favourites, and with Chelsea available at 2/1 the betting suggests a tight game.

But it’s the support for Manchester United not to win a trophy this season that should worry Ferguson as the money continues to pile in with punters backing the Red Devils into 9/2 (from 5/1) to end the season empty-handed.

Ladbrokes have released their Champions League odds for the final with Barcelona the firm favourites to lift the trophy at 2/9.

Manchester United are 13/8 to lift the trophy and 11/5 to win the match inside the 90 minutes but will enter the tie with Barcelona as the huge underdogs.

The Premier League may be in their hands but a win for Chelsea would see the Premier League odds switch in favour of the Blues and would leave Sir Alex Ferguson’s side with a lot of work to do to secure the Premier League title.

Chelsea are just 11/4 to win the Premier League title having drifted out to 16/1 at one point, and Carlo Ancelotti knows a win on Sunday would go a long way to securing his future.

A £10 stake on Chelsea winning the Premier League would return £37.50. Sign up here to take advantage of a free bet worth up to £30.
