Redknapp tips Man City to mount 2012 title challenge
Harry Redknapp believes that Manchester City will mount an even bigger assault on the Premier League title next season.
Despite a summer of big spending, Manchester City have fallen short in their title challenge during this campaign, although they have virtually qualified for the Champions League for the first time.
Participating in Europe’s premier club competition should only help strengthen their squad further, as they can now offer the chance to play on the biggest stage, as well as offer vast sums of money in wages thanks to their wealthy owners.
Redknapp feels that the club have already made moves to improve their squad and will continue to do so until they have not only won the Premier League, but also eventually the Champions League.
He told Sky Sports: “I know people in the right positions there (at City) … they tell me they’ve got one or two players signed already who’ll blow your brains out. I mean, that’s where they’re going.
“I think they will win the Premier League in the next few years. I think they can be a real force next year.
“They’ve got a strong squad which is only going to get better now, because they’ve got unlimited funds to buy anybody they want, and they can pay the wages.”
Manchester City are 11/2 in the Premier League odds to win the title next season, which could represent good value.
This is particularly because Manchester City were 5/1 to win this season’s title ahead of the start of the campaign and it would be wise to think that their squad will only become stronger over the summer.
Udinese’s Chilean winger Alexis Sanchez is believed to be one of the top names on Mancini’s shopping list, while Edinson Cavani and Gary Cahill are other names linked with a move to Eastlands.
