Redknapp backed from 25/1 into 3/1 to be next Chelsea boss

Harry Redknapp continues to be backed in the next Chelsea manager betting and is now just 3/1 to be named as the successor to Carlo Ancelotti.

When the market first opened following Ancelotti’s sacking, Redknapp was towards the foot of the odds at 25/1.

However, steady support saw him backed into 5/1 and this has now continued so that he is third favourite to take over at Chelsea behind Guus Hiddink and Marco Van Basten, who has also been well backed.

Yet despite this, Redknapp has told Sky Sports News that he does not know why his name is in the frame to take over at Chelsea as he has had no contact from the club and he is currently happy with his role at Tottenham.

Redknapp said: “I’ve got a great job at Tottenham. Things are going well for me. I have had a couple of great years; it couldn’t have gone better for me there.

“I haven’t heard anything from Chelsea that’s for sure, no one has ever mentioned Chelsea to me. But it’s not the first I have heard of it, someone said to me today your name got mentioned on TV, well I said ‘I’ve never heard nothing at all so it’s all news to me’.”

Redknapp’s stock is certainly high from his time at Tottenham as when he took over at White Hart Lane the club were involved in a relegation battle, but went on to finish in the top half of the table and only lost the Carling Cup final on penalties.

Then in his first full season Redknapp guided Tottenham to fourth spot and a place in the Champions League, where they reached the quarter finals before being knocked out by Real Madrid.
