Record-breaking Derby predicted as Queen prepares for Epsom glory

Her Majesty The Queen’s horse Carlton House is the 6/4 clear favourite for the Derby with Ladbrokes.

The Sir Michael Stoute-trained colt won the Dante Stakes at York to set up a potentially record-breaking race for the bookies at Epsom next month.

With Royal Wedding fever still fresh in the memory, Ladbrokes reckon the Queen’s horse will ensure the most highly anticipated Flat race in years.

David Williams of Ladbrokes said: “Carlton House’s position as Derby favourite could easily ensure we have a record-breaking Derby turnover.

“The public interest in this horse is about to go through the roof. The nation is sure to latch on to the royal theme and we’re braced for a multi-million pound frenzy as the build-up to Epsom intensifies.

“There’s every chance Carlton House could become one of the best backed public horse we’ve seen in a generation.”

The Queen hasn’t had a runner in The Derby since 1981 when her horse Church Parade finished fifth behind the legendary Shergar.
