Punters in for a cracking Derby trial at York on Thursday

Published:

If the ante-post Derby betting is anything to go by, Thursday’s Dante Stakes at York could be the first thriller of the Flat season.

Carlton House, Seville and World Domination are all major contenders in the Epsom Derby betting with Sir Michael Stoute’s Carlton House and Henry Cecil’s World Domination vying for favouritism with Derby odds of 4/1.

But it’s Seville who currently holds all the value in the Derby betting at 7/1 considering he is the 2/1 joint-second favourite to win the Dante on Thursday.

All three line up in a field of six for Thursday’s Dante Stake and you have to feel for Ashva, Pisco Sour and Yaseer, the forgotten horses of the race as the build-up begins.

Carlton House just edges the favouritism for Thursday’s Dante at 7/2 with Seville and World Domination at 2/1, but you can guarantee plenty of movement between now and 2.30pm on Thursday.

It seems certain to be a three-way battle for victory with Yaseer available at 12/1, Pisco Sour at 33/1 and Yaseer at 100/1, and each-way punters may struggle to find any value in the race.

All eyes will be on the three leading contenders as ante-post Derby bettors look to their Derby chances to justify their early Epsom Derby odds, and we’re in for a cracker of a finish.

World Domination is the only horse to have run further than the Dante trip of 1m2f88y with Carlton House and Seville both yet to run further than 1m.

Aiden O’Brien has employed Ryan Moore for a number of rides this season but the jockey will ride Carlton House for Sir Michael Stoute leaving Christophe Soumillon to ride Seville and Tom Queally will ride World Domination for Henry Cecil.

A £10 stake on World Domination winning the Derby Stakes would return £30. Sign up here to take advantage of a free bet worth up to £30.
