Prohibit is the each-way bet for Haydock’s Temple Stakes

Robert Cowell is firmly of the opinion that Prohibit has solid each-way credentials in the Temple Stakes at Ascot and can lay down a strong challenge to well-backed favourite Overdose.

Prohibit is 14/1 in the Haydock betting and will head to the Group Two contest having run encouragingly at Longchamp on his latest start.

The six-year-old was doing all of his best work late on in the 5f sprint, eventually finishing fourth behind Inxile.

Trainer Cowell believes that the early pace of the Longchamp race was too fast for his horse and he was left to make a late surge passed those who had already run their race.

With 2/1 favourite Overdose almost guaranteed to set a scorching early pace at Haydock, Cowell is expecting the race to map out in the same way.

However, he feels that by taking slightly closer order and the fact the other runners may set off too quickly in pursuit of Overdose, there is certainly a strong possibility that he will finish in the first three.

Cowell said: “Prohibit was flying at the finish the other day and was maybe a bit unlucky, but he was just taken off his toes early.

“He couldn’t lay up with them as they went an absolutely breakneck pace. Frankie Dettori just sat on him and let him find his feet rather than pushing him too hard.

“He’s come out of the race in great form and I think he must have a great chance on Saturday. If the ‘Budapest Bullet’ isn’t what he used to be, he is worth taking on. I think we’re about the most consistent horse in the race.”

Tangerine Trees is another horse on the upgrade after three straight victories and also represents good each-value in the Temple Stakes betting at 10/1.

A £30 stake on Prohibit winning the Temple Stakes would return £420. New customers can sign up here for a free £30 bet.
