More money for Carlton House to win the Epsom Derby

Punters believe that Sir Michael Stoute will claim a sixth career victory in the Derby this year as Carlton House has shortened as favourite to win at Epsom.

Victory in the Dante Stakes at York earlier this month moved Carlton House to the head of the Derby betting at 6/4, but the money continues to pour on the horse and he has now been cut to 11/8.

Ladbrokes’ Hayley O’Connor told the Racing Post that it may be worth taking the price as there is a strong possibility of more support ahead of the Derby on June 4th.

She said: “Popularity for Carlton House is building and there’s simply no telling how big the gamble on him is going to be.

“We’ve had to shorten him to 11/8 and there’s a good chance that his support is just warming up.”

However, there are reasons to believe that Carlton House’s current price in the Derby odds is too skinny based on what he has achieved so far and therefore some good each-way value is available.

There is the belief that Aidan O’Brien’s horses have been slow to find their form this season and this could be a reason for Seville finishing behind Carlton House in the Dante.

Seville is 7/1 to win the Derby and perhaps even better value can be found with Native Khan, who is currently 12/1.

Native Khan was one of a select few horses who came out of the 2000 Guineas with any credit behind Frankel when finishing third and his performance suggested that he would have no trouble staying an extra four furlongs.

A £30 stake on Native Khan winning the Derby would return £360. New customers can sign up here for a free £30 bet.
