Published:Andy Murray’s semi-final performance against Novak Djokovic in Rome last week has led to many punters snapping up Murray’s French Open odds.
Having opened at a huge 20/1, Murray has been backed in to 16/1 on the basis of his Rome defeat and the Scot is now the fourth favourite to land the French Open title.
Murray spent a long time searching for his form and the right mentality following his straight sets defeat to Djokovic in the Australian Open final, and the clay court season has seen Murray return to his best.
Barring a blip in the Madrid Open against Thomaz Bellucci, the eventual semi-finalist, Murray has lost in the semi-finals of two of his three clay court tournaments to Djokovic and Rafael Nadal.
While Djokovic continues to attract all the media attention, Murray’s clay court form has gone a little unnoticed and the Scot offers plenty of each-way value at 16/1.
Many will expect Nadal and Djokovic to be battling it out in the final at Roland Garros, but with a kind draw Murray has every chance of making the final.
He may not have managed to take advantage of the two match points he held against Djokovic in Rome, but the Scot joins Nadal as the only two men to have held match points against the unbeaten Serb this season.
Clay may not be Murray’s favoured surface but two semi-final appearances in three tournaments suggests he’s more than capable of mounting a challenge.
The draw for the French Open is made on Friday and Murray will benefit from avoiding the likes of Bellucci, David Ferrer, Nicolas Almagro and Juan Martin del Potro.
