Man Utd will go all out for victory over Blackpool

Sir Alex Ferguson has admitted that he will rest some of his Manchester United players for the final Premier League game of the season, but has promised the other teams in relegation trouble that he will still be going all-out to beat Blackpool.

Manchester United are 4/9 in the Premier League odds to beat Blackpool and this seems like a generous price given the gulf in class and points between the pair, even if Sir Alex does pick a weakened team.

Although Manchester United will have one eye on the Champions League final, they are still liable to have a solid number of first-team stars in their line up, including Darren Fletcher, Dimitar Berbatov and Darron Gibson.

Meanwhile, there is every chance that Edwin Van der Sar and Paul Scholes will also start as the duo could potentially both be featuring in their final match for Manchester United at Old Trafford.

Sir Alex has stated that he will be professional in his approach to the game, particularly as opponents Blackpool have already been fined this season for making ten changes to their starting side when facing Aston Villa earlier in the campaign.

The Scot told the Daily Mail: “Manchester United will try to win next Sunday, there is no doubt about that.

“This gives us a real opportunity to look at how we can rest players and who needs to keep going. But we have a responsibility to make sure we are fair to all clubs who are struggling against relegation.”

Blackpool realistically need to repeat West Ham’s victory at Old Trafford on the final day of the 2007 Premier League season if they harbour hopes of securing their own survival, although it is possible that a draw will be enough to keep them up.

It is 9/2 in the Premier League odds that Blackpool beat Manchester United, with the draw available at 3/1.
