Is he invincible? Djokovic is 100/1 to remain unbeaten this season

To be five months into the season and to still remain unbeaten is a remarkable achievement, but Novak Djokovic is eyeing something a lot bigger.

Djokovic is 37 matches into his 2011 season and is yet to taste defeat, and Ladbrokes are offering 100/1 that the Serb remains unbeaten for the whole of the 2011 season.

On the basis of last season’s schedule Djokovic has around 10 more tournaments to play in 2011, including the three Grand Slams, and will have to win around 60 more matches to end the season unbeaten.

Having dethroned the king of clay twice in the last two weeks, Djokovic has seen his tennis odds for the three remaining Grand Slams plummet, and the Serb is now just 10/1 (was 50/1) to win all four Grand Slam tournaments this season.

With the Australian Open already under his belt, Djokovic’s attentions turn to the French Open which starts on Monday and the Serb is the 5/4 second favourite to win in Roland Garros.

Rafael Nadal remains the 10/11 favourite despite losing to Djokovic twice in two weeks, but considering the Spaniard was 4/11 at one point, punters have switched their focus to Djokovic.

The Serb has been so dominant that Ladbrokes have opened a ‘who will inflict Djokovic’s first defeat?’ betting market and a ‘in which tournament will Djokovic suffer his next loss?’ betting market.

It’s 1/2 that Djokovic tastes defeat in the French Open, while Queens gets a quote of 2/1 and Wimbledon 7/1 – any other is backable at 14/1.

Nadal is the obvious candidate to halt Djokovic’s unbeaten run and is 13/8 to do so while Andy Murray is 5/1, Roger Federer 10/1 and any other 4/5.

An unbeaten season would be the greatest achievement ever seen in tennis and Djokovic is the 3/1 second favourite to win Wimbledon and the 5/2 joint favourite to win the US Open.
