Hint dropped on Lukaku preparing for Premier League move
Published:With a hatful of Premier League clubs interested in signing Belgian wonderkid Romelu Lukaku, the race may soon be on to find which teams wins the race to secure his services and the biggest hint so far has been dropped that his move from Anderlecht will be to England.
Manchester City and Chelsea are believed to be at the head of the queue to sign the highly-touted 17-year-old, who has already made nine appearances for his country despite his age.
Tottenham, Liverpool and Arsenal are said to be others interested in gaining his signature in England, while Real Madrid are among a host of top European clubs also keeping tabs on his situation.
It is widely assumed that Lukaku will leave Anderlecht this summer and his agent Christophe Henrotay has indicated that a move to England is more likely than to an alternate European country.
Henrotay told Calciomercatoweb: “I can confirm that the English clubs are in pole position, but we have not already concluded an agreement with a particular team. We have talked with several teams, and their names are no secret.
“With his physical and technical characteristics, Lukaku would be perfect for the English football, but, again, there is still nothing done. At the end of the season, we’ll see what happens.”
Lukaku’s physical attributes for a player of his age are particularly impressive as he has both the pace and power to frighten defenders.
However, he still has plenty of improvement to make technically and therefore a move to Arsenal may make the most sense, given the style of football they play and the track record they have developed of nurturing their younger stars.
If an English club does sign Lukaku, then it would be a substantial boost to their chances of winning the Premier League next season.
Currently Premier League odds for the 2012 season have Manchester United as the 6/4 favourites, Chelsea at 7/4, Manchester City 11/2 and Arsenal 7/1.
