Goerges offers all the value in Madrid after dumping out Wozniacki

Published:

Having beaten the world number one twice in four days it’s hard to understand why Julia Goerges is the underdog in today’s Madrid Open betting.

Goerges takes on Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova in the first of today’s Madrid Open matches and is the 11/10 underdog to defeat Pavlychenkova.

Having won the Porsche Grand Prix last week, defeating Caroline Wozniacki, in the final, Goerges has to be the favourite having dumped Wozniacki – the pre-tournament Madrid Open favourite – out again on Thursday.

The two have never met before and while Pavlyuchenkova is ranked six places higher than Goerges, there’s nothing to suggest why the Russian should be the 4/6 favourite to win.

It’s not going to be a straight forward victory for Goerges but we fancy the German to edge it 2-1 at 10/3.

Victoria Azarenka vs Lucie Safarova

Wozniacki’s exit means Azarenka is now the 11/10 favourite to win the Madrid Open and the in-form Belorussian can saunter past Safarova today having won all five of their previous encounters.

Azarenka is 1/6 to win the match and 8/15 to win in straight sets and 3/10 to win the first set and win the match.

Bethanie Mattek-Sands vs Na Li

We’ve been tipping Mattek-Sands all week and having started the tournament 100/1 to win, she is now 25/1.

Na Li has struggled to capture her best form since reaching the Australian Open final and as her opponent has defeated Ana Ivanovic and Francesca Schiavone, we’re backing Mattek-Sands to upset the Madrid Open odds again.

Mattek-Sands is 13/8 to win the tie and as the two have never met before, the American’s confidence can see her dominate Li on her leas favoured surface and Mattek-Sands is 4/1 to win 2-0.

Dominika Cibulkova vs Petra Kvitova

Kvitova has been dominant in her first clay tournament of the season and is the 9/2 second favourite to win this week suggesting she should have no problem dispatching of Maria Sharapova’s conqueror Cibulkova.

Kvitova is 4/9 to win the match and 11/10 to win in straight sets.

A £10 stake on Bethanie Mattek-Sands winning the Madrid Open would return £260. Sign up here for a free Madrid Open bet worth up to £30.
