Goerges cannot count on Azarenka retiring early this week
Published:Julia Goerges may not have defeated Victoria Azarenka in the Porsche Grand Prix last week, but the Belorussian’s retirement sparked a run of 13 days for Goerges which has seen her lift one trophy and beat world number one Caroline Wozniacki twice.
Azarenka won the first set last week before retiring due to a shoulder injury and the Belorussian is the 4/9 favourite to beat Goerges.
That meeting last week is the only head-to-head form to go on but while Goerges is flying high on confidence it may be the better bet to back the German at 13/8.
However, the retirement aside, Azarenka has been the one consistent force in women’s tennis in recent weeks and having tipped her to beat Goerges last week, we’re going to do the same again this week.
It’s bound to be a very tight match between two in-form players and on that basis we’re backing Azarenka to edge it 2-1 at 3/1.
Petra Kvitova vs Na Li
Li ended the run of Bethanie Mattek-Sands in the quarter-final with a display that was far from convincing and the Australian Open runner-up will have to up her game if she is to beat Kvitova.
As Li is seeded 12 places higher than Kvitova in the rankings punters are afforded the chance to find plenty of value in backing Kvitova who is 4/7 to beat Li.
On her least favoured surface Li is the 5/4 underdog and while the two players have never met, Kvivtova’s performances in her first clay tournament of the year make her the banker of the women’s quarter-finals.
Kvitova is 13/8 to win 2-0 and advance to the Madrid Open final for a trophy she is currently 3/1 to lift.
