France named as the host nation for the 2018 Ryder Cup
Published:Following such a successful Ryder Cup in 2010, all eyes were on Wentworth today as the 2018 Ryder Cup host country was announced.
France, Germany, Netherlands, Portugal and Spain were all in the running to host the most popular tournament in golf, and the French bid has been deemed the worthy winner.
Under the shadow of Seve Ballesteros, the Spanish bid had gained plenty of followers in recent weeks with many believing that it would be a fitting tribute to a man that gave so much to golf.
The Ryder Cup committee took recent events into light but the decision to award France the Ryder Cup was made because of their “outstanding bid” and consistent contribution to golf.
On the western outskirts of Paris, the much-respected Le Golf National is a wonderful course and while many will be sad not to see Madrid host a Ballesteros tribute, Paris is a brilliant alternative.
Ballesteros’ good friend Jose Maria Olazabal will take charge of the European team in 2012 when they head to the Medinah Country Club in Chicago for a Ryder Cup Europe are 1/1 to win.
The USA are also 1/1 to win in 2012 but considering the shift in power between the European Tour and the PGA Tour, Europe offer plenty of value in the Ryder Cup betting.
This week the European Tour is in Andalucia for the Volvo World Match Play Championship and the world’s top two golfers in Lee Westwood and Luke Donald will be in attendance.
The strength of the European Tour can be seen in the line-up for the World Match Play with Martin Kaymer, Rory McIlroy, Graeme McDowell and Alvaro Quiros all lining up for the event.
Westwood currently heads the World Match Play betting at 6/1 but Paul Casey looks a brilliant outside bet at 16/1.
