Fletcher’s form may keep Doyle out for Wolves decider

Steven Fletcher’s recent impressive form is likely to mean that Kevin Doyle may be left out of Wolves’ crucial clash with Blackburn on the final day of the Premier League season.

Both teams are among the five that could still fill the final two Premier League relegation places and a win for either at Molineux would be enough to secure their top-flight survival.

Wolves are 1/1 to beat Blackburn and have triumphed in their last two Premier League games against West Brom and Sunderland to ensure that their fight for safety is in their own hands.

The form of Fletcher has been pivotal of late as he has four goals in his last three games and he has stepped into the breach as Doyle has faced seven weeks on the sidelines because of torn medial knee ligaments.

Doyle made a return as a late substitute in the Sunderland victory and is now pushing for a start against Blackburn ahead of Fletcher and Stephen Ward.

However, Wolves manager Mick McCarthy has indicated that he may not change a winning formula and this means that Doyle will have to be content with a place on the bench again.

McCarthy told the Express & Star: “Doyle will be banging at my door and wanting to play and it’s good to have him back fit. He’s ready to play and it’s lovely for us to have him.

“But Ward has been a willing and able foil for Fletcher and really puts a shift in. I think Fletcher enjoys playing with him.”

Wolves do have the luxury of being the only one of the five in the relegation scrap to be playing at home on the final day, but Blackburn will be confident of gaining a result.

Blackburn may have only won once since January, but have only lost once on the final day of a season since 2001 and are 11/5 to beat Wolves.

A £30 stake on Wolves beating Blackburn 2-0 would return £210. New customers can sign up here for a free £30 bet.
