Financial gains revealed for a Man Utd Champions League win

Not only will Manchester United enjoy a vast amount of prestige if they beat Barcelona in the Champions League final, but it could also ensure the competition makes them an extra £4.4m financially this season.

Manchester United’s odds are 13/8 to lift the Champions League trophy, which would also provide a measure of revenge for their defeat to Barcelona in the final of the same tournament in 2009.

However, Goal.com has indicated that the Red Devils could be in for a large financial gain if they can win the Champions League for the fourth time in their history, with the tournament making them a total close to £70m.

It is highlighted that victory in the Champions League would net Manchester United a total of £49.4m from this year’s competition from UEFA, consisting of £26.8m from their progress through the tournament and £22.6m in TV money.

This would include £9m from UEFA for winning the Champions League, with this figure being cut to £4.4m if they were to lose to Barcelona at Wembley on May 28th.

The Champions League has also resulted in close to £20m being gained from their six home games at Old Trafford, which makes up the overall figure.

Meanwhile, these figures fail to include the benefits such a victory would have on any sponsorship or merchandise deals and vice-versa how much it would cost them in areas such as player bonuses.

Barcelona are 4/9 in the Champions League odds to win the tournament for the third time in six seasons, while it is 10/11 that they secure victory inside the 90 minutes.

Alternatively, Manchester United are 12/5 to triumph in normal time, with 9/4 available that it is all square at the final whistle, which would obviously mean extra time and potentially penalties.

A £30 stake on Manchester United beating Barcelona 2-1 would return £360. New customers can sign up here for a free £30 bet.
