Donald to be pipped at the post again in BMW PGA Championship

Luke Donald will be relishing the trip to Wentworth for the BMW PGA Championship this week as it’s a course and tournament in which he’s had top-10 finishes in three of the last four years.

Donald, the 7/1 favourite this week, is yet to finish outside of the top ten in any of his eight tournaments since missing the cut in the first event of 2011.

The Englishman is prolific at Wentworth, in this tournament he has finished T2, 35, 3 and 7 and the world number two looks a shoe-in for a top-five finish this week at 13/8.

But while Donald looks certain to challenge this week, he continues to struggle to cross the finishing line in first place and it’s worth avoiding Donald when looking for the winner.

An incredible line-up will tee-off at Wentworth on Thursday including the likes of Lee Westwood (8/1), Martin Kaymer (14/1), Rory McIlroy (16/1) and Graeme McDowell (20/1) but the list of recent winners would suggest looking further down the betting.

Simon Khan, Paul Casey, Miguel Angel Jimenez and Anders Hansen have been victorious in this tournament since it became the BMW PGA Championship, and there’s a lot to like about Paul Casey’s chances of a second win in three years.

Casey is 25/1 to win this week and has never finished worst than 17th in the past four years.

Casey has a win and four top-20 finishes to his name this season and two of his 11 European Tour wins have come at Wentworth.

Paired with Ian Poulter and Francesco Molinari for the first two days, the standard of his partners will be sure to see Casey make a fast start.

Casey is the 6/4 favourite in the 3-ball betting to shoot the best first round score of his playing partners but looks the pick to win this week.

A £10 stake on Casey winning the BMW PGA Championship would return £260. Sign up here to take advantage of a free bet worth up to £30.
