DeGale 4/7 to secure predicted KO victory over Groves
Published:James DeGale has questioned the quality of the defence of George Groves ahead of their grudge match and this weakness should lead to a KO victory for the reigning British super-middleweight champion.
DeGale is 2/9 in the boxing odds to beat Groves at the O2 Arena in London and gain a measure of redemption for his defeat against the same opponent back in their amateur days.
Very rarely do two boxers have such a hatred and the pair have known each other since 2002 when they were simply young boxers sharpening their skills in the same gym.
They have both made serene progress into the professional ranks, with the pair still retaining unbeaten records and winning titles.
However, more than simply ending the winning streak of their opponent and gaining the bigger springboard towards a world title shot is at stake in their eagerly-anticipated showdown.
DeGale has definitely been the more outspoken in any press conferences and has been particularly keen to inform commonwealth champion Groves of his so-called non-existent defence.
He said: “His biggest weakness is his defence, he has no defence. No defence at all. He can’t box, he can’t fight on the ropes. He doesn’t know how to hold. The inside fighting bit, he just can’t do it.
“Basically he is going to get battered or be a kip on the floor. That’s it.”
DeGale is 4/7 to win by KO and it is 5/1 that he secures victory within the opening three rounds.
Although Groves has beaten DeGale before, the fact he collected a black eye sparring and was knocked down in his last fight with Kenny Anderson before fighting back to claim victory, do provide reasons for concern.
Groves certainly poses the biggest challenge of DeGale’s professional career to date and is 3/1 to pick up victory.
