Clijsters in search of hat-trick after confirming French Open entry
The WTA Tour publicist may have missed Kim Clijsters over the past two months, but punters have taken full advantage of the value in the tennis betting in the absence of the world number two.
Clijsters will return from a two-month lay-off next week to take her place in the French Open line up, but fear not punters as the value is still there in the French Open betting.
Considering Clijsters hasn’t played since the end of March, her French Open odds of 10/1 may be a little short, especially considering she has never won a French Open.
Except Clijsters has dominated the women’s game in the absence of the Williams sisters, winning the last two Grand Slam tournaments, and has previously made two French Open finals.
The Belgian will readily admit that clay isn’t her favoured surface and the world number two has only won three clay court tournaments in her career and hasn’t featured in a French Open since losing in the 2006 semi-final.
In the absence of the Williams sisters and Clijsters Victoria Azarenka has flourished, but when the French Open odds read as they do – Azarenka and Caroline Wozniacki share favouritism at 5/1 – it’s obvious that there is no standout candidate to win in Roland Garros.
Clijsters certainly stands out at 10/1 considering the each-way value, and as the number two seed, is sure to get a favourable draw when the French Open draw is made on Friday.
While Clijsters searches for the hat-trick of Grand Slam wins, punters backing the Belgian will be hoping it’s third time lucky having lost in two French Open finals previously.
Joining Clijsters at 10/1 is Sam Stosur, Vera Zvonareva and Petra Kvitova, but there is plenty of time for the French Open odds to change before Monday.
