Nadal’s brutal draw leaves Djokovic a tempting Madrid Open bet
Published:Following his victory in the Serbian Open last week, Novak Djokovic has stretched his 2011 unbeaten run to 27 games but the Serb is the second favourite to win in Madrid this week.
The world’s best have assembled in the Spanish capital for one of the clay season’s biggest tournaments, and it’s hardly surprising to see the king of clay, Rafael Nadal, head the Madrid Open betting at 4/9.
But by his own admission Nadal faces a tough draw which sees him face Marcos Baghdatis in the opening round before a potential second round tie with either Mikhail Youzhny or Juan Martin del Potro.
Should Nadal negotiate those two matches then it’s likely he will face Roger Federer in the semi-final with Novak Djokovic’s toughest ties likely to be against David Ferrer and Andy Murray before a potential final.
Djokovic is 4/1 to win this week with Federer available at 9/1 and Murray available at 20/1.
However Nadal is unbeaten on clay since 2009 and while the world number one faces a tough draw, he is the greatest ever clay court player and the draw will hold no fear for him.
Gael Monfils vs Juan Monaco
There is plenty of value to be found in today’s Madrid Open betting with Juan Monaco and Gael Monfils in action at around 17.30 and having registered two 2-0 wins over Monaco, we’re tipping Monfils at 6/5 to win 2-0.
Milos Raonic vs Feliciano Lopez
The most intriguing tie of the day also offers the most value and while the two have never met on clay before, both player’s recent clay court form makes this a tight match.
Raonic is 1/1 to win following a semi-final appearance in Portugal last week but Lopez, who lost in the Serbia Open final to Djokovic, offers all the value at 8/11 and 5/4 to win the first set and the match.
