Blackpool face a mighty task even scoring at Old Trafford

Only two visiting players have ever scored at Old Trafford on the final day of a Premier League season and this enhances the size of the task facing Blackpool in their away clash with Manchester United.

Blackpool are currently in the bottom three and even though it is possible that they could lose on the final day of the season and still stay up, it is likely that they need a result at Old Trafford to survive.

It is 9/2 that Blackpool do spring a major surprise and beat Manchester United, while it is 10/3 that they secure what is also an unlikely draw.

Ian Holloway’s team already have a mountain to climb in the fact that Manchester United have not been beaten at home in any competition this season, while they have won their last 16 games at Old Trafford.

However, their form on the final day of the Premier League season is also mightily impressive, winning their closing game in seven of the last eight campaigns.

But what is perhaps more daunting for Blackpool is that Les Ferdinand for Tottenham and Carlos Tevez’ well-known goal that helped West Ham survive in 2007 are the only goals scored at Old Trafford by an away player on the final day of a season since the inception of the Premier League.

Blackpool’s chances of victory are also not aided by the fact that they have managed just six clean sheets all season, which is liable to mean that they may need to score twice at Old Trafford if they are to triumph.

Therefore, a defeat is the far more likely outcome for Blackpool and it is 8/15 in the Premier League odds that Manchester United win, while it is 2/7 that Blackpool are relegated, regardless of the result.

Meanwhile, 2/1 may prove the best bet that Manchester win to nil against Blackpool.
