Zenit would happily take Arshavin back from Arsenal

The form of Andrey Arshavin has been one of the big disappointments of Arsenal’s season and former club Zenit have offered him a return to Russia should he decide to leave the Emirates.

Arshavin cost £15m from Zenit in 2009 and this initially looked like money well spent after a fine first season in London.

However, the Russian has failed to scale these heights again this campaign, managing just six goals.

Meanwhile, he has failed to complete 90 minutes in the last month and has been forced to settle for a place on the bench in recent weeks as Arsenal’s title bid has faltered.

Players including Cesc Fabregas, Gael Clichy and Nicklas Bendtner have also been linked with a move away from Arsenal in the summer and Zenit have indicated they would be happy to strike a deal if Arshavin wanted to leave.

Sporting director Igor Korneev said: “Zenit’s doors are always open for Andrey. If his situation at Arsenal does not improve and he’s not comfortable in London, we can study this issue in time for next season.”

Arsenal’s recent poor form has seen them slip nine points behind Manchester United with just four games to go and they are now 50/1 in the Premier League odds to be crowned champions.

They must win all of their remaining four games to have any outside chance and this begins at home to Manchester United next.

Arsenal’s betting odds are 13/8 to beat Manchester United, although they have lost their last two home fixtures against the opposition 3-1.

Manchester United are also 13/8 to beat Arsenal, while a third successive 3-1 victory at the Emirates is priced at 20/1.

A £30 stake on Manchester United winning 3-1 would return £600. New customers can sign up here for a free £30 bet.
