Tottenham vs Real Madrid – Liverpool result offers Spurs hope

Harry Redknapp doesn’t come across as a very religious man but there will be plenty of thoughts emanating skyward from the Tottenham Hotspur manager’s mind on Wednesday.

Trailing 4-0 from the first leg, Tottenham will be hoping they can channel the spirit of Liverpool’s 2009 Champions League side that registered a 4-0 victory over Real Madrid at Anfield – although at 25/1 to qualify, it would take more than a Steven Gerrard rescue act to save Spurs.

Match Odds

Qualification may be unlikely but Tottenham are unbeaten at home in eight European games and with a point to prove, Spurs look the pick at 13/8 to win on Wednesday night.

Understandably Real Madrid are favourites at 6/4, but with such a big lead from the first leg, and a huge game against Barcelona at the Bernabeu on Saturday, Jose Mourinho’s side may take their foot of the gas.

Redknapp’s side will find it difficult to make a poorer start than they did in the Bernabeu, and with a packed White Hart Lane ready to enjoy the evening, it wouldn’t be a surprise to see a Spurs win.

Total Goals

In that eight-match unbeaten run Tottenham have managed 25 goals and with qualification seemingly out of the question, Spurs can return to the free flowing, exciting football they played before Redknapp realised they had a chance of winning the Champions League.

This means Wednesday’s nights tie will be full of goals and with Real Madrid only failing to find the net in two of their last 14 away Champions League fixtures , backing over 3.5 goals at 13/8 looks the pick of the days bets.

Madrid have conceded four on two of their last three trips to England and backing a 4-2 Spurs would prove hugely profitable at 80/1.

A £10 stake on Kaka scoring at any time would return £40. Get a free football bet worth up to £30 when signing up here for a new Ladbrokes.com account.
