Take the 12/1 on Whatuthink in Irish Grand National
With 9/2 favourite Beautiful Sound still needing two horses to pull out before making the 25-runner field for the Ladbrokes Irish Grand National, Whatuthink looks fine each-way value to make the first four at Fairyhouse.
If the ante-post favourite does not run, it is likely to mean that many of the leading fancies will see their prices shorten and therefore now may be a good time to take the 12/1 in the Irish Grand National betting on Whatuthink.
One of the main reasons why the nine-year-old can be expected to run well is because he already knows what it takes to perform strongly in the race.
He finished third in the race last year behind Bluesea Cracker and this year’s Grand National runner-up Oscar Time and is only been told to carry an extra 2lb by the handicapper.
Meanwhile, Patrick Mangan takes the ride again and is now far more experienced as a jockey 12 months on.
Whatuthink has been lightly raced this season with just three runs and undoubtedly put up his best display on the latest of these when third at Naas.
He was certainly staying on the best of the leading challengers and takes on winner Hughies Grey again at Fairyhouse on better terms, despite only losing by a length.
Whatuthink is weighted at 10st 7lb in the Ladbrokes Irish Grand National and this is a positive as no horse has carried more than 11st to victory since Commanche Court in 2000.
Hughies Grey is currently 16/1 in the Irish Grand National odds, which is the same price as See U Bob, who is certainly due a big run after a couple of hard-luck stories this season.
See U Bob could be a particular danger if he manages to see out the 3m5f trip, which is a lot further than he has ever encountered before.
A £30 stake on Whatuthink winning the Ladbrokes Irish Grand National would return £360. New customers can sign up here for a free £30 bet.
