Punters wise not to forget Memory in 1000 Guineas odds
A promising racecourse gallop has enhanced confidence from within the Memory camp that the horse has a fine chance of winning the 1000 Guineas.
Three early career victories saw Memory move to the head of the 1000 Guineas odds, but she suffered a slight setback on her latest start when a beaten favourite in the Moyglare Stud Stakes at the Curragh in August.
However, there are arguments that the horse was always under pressure given her poor draw, while it was also her first run outside of the UK.
Memory is now 7/1 in the 1000 Guineas betting and connections believe that the horse is still showing the speed which saw her flash home late on to win the Cherry Hinton Stakes at Newmarket last season.
Although all of her victories have come over 6f, Harry Herbert, managing director of owners Highclere Thoroughbred Racing, saw enough in a 7f gallop at Newmarket to suggest that the horse will have the tools to run well over 1m when returning to the course on May 1st.
He revealed on the Highclere website: “Hopefully this gallop would have put her spot-on and it is definitely all systems go.
“That was a really good piece of work and showed that Memory has lost none of her natural speed and ability. Jockey Richard Hughes was delighted with the filly’s wellbeing.”
There are currently joint favourites at the head of the 1000 Guineas odds as Moonlight Cloud and Havant are both priced at 5/1.
But there are doubts about the former as trainer Freddie Head is still to make a final decision as to whether to send Moonlight Cloud to Newmarket following her easy victory in a Group Three contest in France earlier this month.
A £30 stake on Memory winning the 1000 Guineas would return £210. New customers can sign up here for a free £30 bet.
