Murray overpriced at 25/1 in French Open odds

Although it is hard to look past Nadal, who has been utterly dominant on the surface since winning the first of five French Opens in 2005, he does not offer much value in the betting market at 1/3.

Therefore, some good value can be found elsewhere, with Andy Murray looking one of the most likely to push the Spaniard at Roland Garros.

Murray is 25/1 in the French Open odds, which looks a joke of a price when compared to his prices to win Wimbledon or the US Open, where he is 6/1 and 5/1 respectively to win his maiden Grand Slam.

There may be the argument that this is because clay has proven his biggest nemesis over his career, as he has never previously made it beyond the quarter finals of the French Open.

However, a player of his talents should certainly expect to fair better than he has, given that he has vast experience of clay courts from his years in Barcelona as a teenager.

Furthermore, he showed recently that he is returning to his best form when pushing Nadal to three sets in the final of the Monte Carlo Masters, despite carrying an elbow injury that required an injection before the start.

Murray is now resting the injury in preparation for the French Open and Nadal certainly feels that the Scot has more than a decent chance of being involved in the latter stages.

Nadal said after that win: “There is no reason for Andy not to play well on clay. He has all of the shots, his movement is fantastic and he can play well on the defensive.

“Andy is a very complete player and can have a fantastic clay court season.”

Novak Djokovic is second in the French Open betting at 4/1, which is far shorter than Murray even though his record on clay is only slightly better than that of Murray.

Djokovic has never previously made it past the last four of the French Open.
