Liverpool vs Newcastle – Carroll absence to make no difference

Published:

Andy Carroll may be a big doubt to face his former club Newcastle, but this should not prevent Liverpool securing a vital three points to keep alive their outside chances of a top-four finish in the Premier League this season.

Match Odds

Liverpool have been in fine form of late, taking 27 points from their last 13 Premier League games.

Meanwhile, their recent record at Anfield over Newcastle is also particularly good, as they have avoided defeat in the last 15 meetings at home, which includes five successive victories.

Liverpool’s odds are 2/5 to beat Newcastle, but taking everything into considering this may be a fair price, especially to be added to an accumulator.

Newcastle are 13/2 to take maximum points and they will be keen to do a first double over Liverpool since 1994.

The 3-1 victory at St James’ Park is also a fixture that will be fondly remembered by Newcastle boss Alan Pardew, as it arrived in his first game in charge of the club.

Newcastle are also liable to be more than happy to leave with a point and it is 7/2 in the Premier League betting that the game ends in a draw.

First Goalscorer

Carroll is struggling to recover from a knee problem and although he will be keen to play against his former club, he is facing a race against time to take part.

However, scoring should still not prove a problem for Liverpool as they are the only Premier League club to have found the target in all of their top-flight fixtures in 2011.

Dirk Kuyt has seven goals in Liverpool’s last six games and it may pay to focus on him continuing his hot streak.

Kuyt is 5/1 to score the opener, while Luis Suarez is 4/1 to break the deadlock.
