Italian star can upset his European rivals at huge Masters odds
Published:Francesco Molinari is a fiery little character but it’s his touch and skill, and ability to put the ball in the right position that makes him a great Masters bet this week.
The younger of the Molinari brothers, Francesco is more fancied than Edoardo to win at Augusta this week but the two Ryder Cup players still have huge Masters odds of 100/1 and 125/1 respectively.
Francesco made his first appearance at the Masters last year and finished 30th, and the Ryder Cup appearance plus a victory at the WGC – HSBC Champions in November has seen the Italian evolve as a player.
His form at the start of 2011 hasn’t been too bad either with two top ten finishes – including a third place at the WGC Cadillac Championship three weeks ago – two top twenty finishes and six cuts made in six tournaments.
“It’s a course that suits me because you have to be precise with your irons,” says Francesco. “That’s my strength so I have an advantage.”
Two poor rounds in last week’s Shell Houston Open saw Francesco’s Masters odds drift, but three poor rounds in 24 this year – he shot 74 in the third round of the Hyundai Tournament of Champions – doesn’t make him a bad player.
At 100/1 Francesco is offering up plenty of each-way value in the Masters betting and with Ladbrokes offering 1/4 odds for a top five finish, you can get 20/1 for a top five finish as Francesco looks to mix it with his European rivals this week.
Martin Kaymer (20/1), Lee Westwood (16/1), Luke Donald (33/1) and Graeme McDowell (40/1) currently occupy four of the top five ranking positions, but it could be the softly spoken Italian who proves to be the strongest of the European contingent, and he is 33/1 to finish as the top European.
